Hoho ho... Going home soon la!!!!! Counting down the days! So excited...but i think i will be very emotional when i leave. I mean, i have always hated goodbyes and seperations and some of my friends have already said that they will come and send me of...so touching la... Somehow, the excitement of going home and the sadness of leaving here...makes me...so confused....No matter what...i have been here for more than 11 months la...i am improving myself...my cooking and my german! But then...no matter what...KL is my home...and forever will be my home...so i guess i must go back... 16 more days and KL will no longer be the same! Hehe Have not been posting for a long time.... Really long....I was just...ahem...lazy...hahaha Anyway, i am finishing my internship soon (next week! YAY!) Then i am off for my holidays...i would say well deserved holiday. Haha
Cant believe i survivoed 6 months of internship! I think i will miss here but i still want to leave...So excited! And you know, when you are excited, time seems to fly slower. Or is it just me? Been a little busy for the past week...planning my holidays...making sure i have enough money, place to stay...etc... and also packing...yeah...packing...things just seems to multiply! I think i bought too many clothes here...haha...but then its my books that are heaviest. Had to fly them back! Nak buang, but feel sayang pulak...what if i need it for reference in the future? Also been thinking a lot about my next step. Given a lot of thought about it..but... @@@@@@ and my dad's like...come home! Come home only think....but by the time i come home...i lose a lot of time liao... Dont know la...all i know is i have been craving for Malaysian food! Has been torturing myself lately with pictures of local food....I wonder...how much weight will i gain when i get back.... hehe You'll never know how much you'll miss things that you often take for granted at home until you are away....far far away... and in my case, will be my babies and food!! HAHA...
Cant wait to see my babies and gorge on foods!! No one would believe what kind of experience I went trough last week! It all started when Oscar & I decided to go to Geneva on Tuesday. So after much discussion, we decided to take the last bus down (7pm) and from there on, everything went so wrong. So damn wrong. This is the chronicle of our journey to Geneva: 6.00pm – finish dinner & clean up 6.15 – back to room to pack 6.45- hurries Oscar & tells him that I need to go to the bank before leaving. He still has things to pack & asked me to leave 1st 6.50 – went to the bank & then head straight to the post (also the bus stop). Wind was very strong, so I decided to go up to the bus 1st. 6.58 – calls to Oscar were unanswered 7.00 – bus leaves the post for train station (bahnof) 7.01 – Oscar : ‘Where are you?’ Weng Yi: ‘Where are you ar?! The bus left already & I am in the bus!’ Oscar: ‘Oh, ohkay, I will tumpang yi jie’s (our 2nd big sister) car to bahnof Weng Yi: ‘Okay la…I will wait for you at the bahnof’ 7.50 – Sent sms to Oscar asking what time will he leave the bakery & what time will he will reach bahnof 8.15 – Oscar arrives at the bahnof Weng Yi: ‘Why never reply sms ar?’ Oscar: ‘ I am so tired ar…No time to reply sms ar…I walked from Fluhli Post!’ (FYI, Flulhi Post is the half way point when we turun bukit from where we live & the bahnof, about 15 minutes by bus) Weng Yi: ‘What?’ Oscar: ‘Yes ar…yi jie only send me til Fluhli Post’ Weng Yi: ‘She not go home meh?’ Oscar: ‘No ar! Today she go back to Fluhli and she so no belas kasihan, know I want to bahnof but still dump me at Fluhli! Then I run ar…and put my hand out to see if anyone willing to tumpangkan me’ Weng Yi: ‘Then?’ Oscar: ‘Then I run for almost 4 stops and then this leng chai finally stopped and asked me where I want to go and I say Schupfheim Bahnof. He think think then say ok... Phew!' Weng Yi: Aha..the black car! Oscar: Yes…the black car…Your yi jie ar…so teruk! Really dump me at the post Weng Yi: Who ask you late ar? Oscar: I thought it was 6.30 when you call me! Fine la…then we took the 830 train to Geneva…and suppose we arrive at 1115pm but somehow the train lambat…and we arrive at 1130 and Ian (our friend where we will stay with) waited at the Bahnof for ½ hour and it was damn cold coz it snowed and stopped 10 minutes before we arrive (Oscar always wanted to see snow in Geneva but just missed it and it was the 1st time it snowed in Geneva for many many years) So after some hug hug and all we start our journey to Ian’s apartment and it was raining…Swt…Rain takpe la..but this time I didn’t bring my umbrella (I always bring my umbrella but that day didn’t bring jer…hujan) Ok la…hujan a bit takpe la…got jacket mah…but still very sejuk when the wind blows Then ok la…we reach Ian’s place…did a small tour…the apartment is rather big & us well equipped. So Ian showed us where we can sleep and all then ok la…we chat chat a bit & Ian said that he’s not feeling so well and wants to sleep early. Ok la..Oscar & me pun very penat from travelling so we also want to sleep early…everytime we almost sleep la…Ian will go ‘Eih…’ and asked us many many things…so menyampah…in the end, we only slept at like 4 am…really really sleep…so tiring… Next day, woke up at 10 and get ready to go out la…it was still raining cats & dogs outside but ok la…Ian’s house got umbrella. So we went to Manor, and had brunch there. After brunch, Ian went home to rest. Oscar & I continued to walked in Manor til around 5…then we went back to the apartment and take the key from Ian and went for dinner la..By then, the rain has stopped so Oscar didn’t bring the umbrella out. Its ok la..weather looks beautiful…went to dinner at a small restaurant opened by a grandma (which by the way is Oscar’s favourite restaurant in Geneva). It was really small just 4 tables of 6 and its very sempit and many old people go there to eat. But the food there is really good. The grandma made them all by herself and does not use any ajinomoto and all…just herbs & spices. I had salad for starter and her French Dressing is really good (also home made in very old plastic bottle) and for main course I had chicken with some carrots, cauliflower & potatoes. When I had my 1st bite of the chicken, I was like, ‘WoW’ Its so good and its really so full of herbs taste. Even the veges, very healthy & it only cost 13 francs for a plate of salad and main course. If we eat at other place, anything like that will cost between 25-30 francs. And this is really home made!
After makan makan is time to go jalan jalan la…So we walked to the old town (or Bel Air) to look around and find my friend who is working in a hotel. At the same time, we also look for any Asian Restaurants who were looking for part timers. Then as we were on our way to Hotel Churchill (where my friend works) it started to rain & it only gets heavier and heavier. Since we didn’t have umbrella and all shops are already closed…no choice la…we meneruskan perjalanan to Churchill hoping that they can loan us an umbrella. Sampai sana la…my friend not working there! She is at the sister hotel!Walao…no choice la..so we patah balik and go to Hotel Century. But my friend was busy with check ins, so we just stood outside the hotel (but sheltered) and wait til she finish check in. Then when I show up, Vimla was like ‘OMG, is that you?’ and I was like yes…its me…and I was all wet and cold…then ok la…chat chat a bit & after pinjam toilet, I asked her if she could get us the pass that allows us to travel by bus for free and thank god, she could! So we took the bus back to Ian’s place. But once we reach, we were so cold and hungry, so after shower, we went and buy kebab. Then after eat, I was so sleepy pulak…so I slept with a full stomach – that’s how I gain weight! Damn!’ The next morning pulak…still raining but ok la…we remembered to take the umbrella, so after brunch, we went and did some shopping (Oscar for a new pair of shoe & watch while I was looking for something to bring back as a souvenir). Also, we went to Asian shop to buy some vege and canned foods. We planned to take the 245 train to Bern but then tak jadi and we thought there is a train to Bern at 310 but suddenly…it’s the train to Milan pulak! So funny coz at 10 past every hour, there is a train to Bern except 310! The next train is 345. So fine la…we thought we go to Migros to buy some food for dinner. At Migros, Oscar saw some cheap pork & beef and was pondering which to buy. I looked at my watch and it was like 5 minutes to 345. So we cepat cepat pay and run to the bahnof and as I was holding so many things, suddenly my anak angkat po kai and fell on the floor. Then this Oscar don’t know why he just stopped and gelak! Fine la…we picked my anak angkat up & ran to the platform and we saw the train leave…we were just 1 minute late…Damn Switzerland! So no choice we just sat there and wait lor…for 410. If we caught the 245 train to Bern, we could have walked around Bern for 2 hours…but tak jadi pulak…instead we only went to the Migros in Bern coz I want to buy chilli…. By the time we reach home, we were both so exhausted…. What an unforgettable trip this was! Cold, wet & late! | Back! | Apr 4, '08 11:56 AM for everyone |
So... I know many people ask me why i so long never update my blog... Here I am..sorry la...been...well...penguin needs to hibernate. Haha Its not like I am super busy or something...i mean i am literary free after work & since I am in this town which is much smaller than Melawati, there is nothing much that i can really do also...but then lately...after work...i eat my lunch then i fall asleep...Haih...fat fat you know... But after that, I usually study a bit of German (i bought this huge dictionary from Luzern) so i just try to improve my vocabulary la...at least i can now speak better but yet broken German. So yeah...quite boring...
I am now almost entering 3rd month of my internship. 3 more months to go. Yay! Not that i don't like my internship but...i miss home... I can't wait to go home! And Rui Yee has set up her own business...selling clothes...(www.fashionistashoppe.blogspot.com) Everytime i go there and see all the clothes...i will be like...drooling... Lama tak beli baju already la...last was boxing day in London last year....haih...no money ar...here everything so expensive....so i must jimat jimat especially since i travel and look for friends in other cities during my days off...so cannot buy clothes. But when i balik...hopefully...i will have some extra money...then i want to go and attack the shopping malls!! Haha...Need to get myself back into the fashion world. Coz here, i am always with a top or blouse then jeans and boots or sports shoe (need to be comfortable when travelling) as i walk a lot (need to save from transportation mah) Anyway, as I only have about 3 more months in Switzerland, i try to make the most out of it la...coz i do not think i will come back to Switzerland (either to study or visit) so I try to visit and see as much as possible. And for the past 8 months (almost la...) here, i have learnt so much. I think i have grown up and is clearer of what I want to achieve in life. You can say that this is where i really grow as I am on my own (means far from my family) and met so many people here. Good or bad, they all taught me something in life. Although only few months but it really showed me the many aspects and faces of life. It really opened my eyes and hopefully, I can put it to good use. Actually I really missed the times when we are still in studying...I mean...though many of us are still doing internship in Switzerland and we chat a lot of msn and on the phone, but circumstances have changed...we dont have the same free time anymore, we are seperated by distance and also money (bcs transportation is expensive here. Read VERY EXPENSIVE). Its a bit sad... But i guess its only natural for people to go their seperate ways. Even if there is no internship, we will all also seperate once we finish studying and start working. But you all know me la...i hate seperation...it makes me very emotional and cry... I wonder...will i cry when i leave Switzerland on 6th of August? Lately, I have not updated my blog. There has been so much going on and one important thing is I have started my internship. Where? At a bakery! Yep! BAKERY! Its called Rothorn-Beck. Its situated near my school, so it’s a local bakery la…but…here they make various kind of breads and pastries and desserts. As it is small, I get to learn a lot. And do a lot. No, Bal it is not a bakery like Bread Story and all…its just like a kilang membuat roti. So I am trying to master the art of bread making. Haha My working time starts at 3 am and I finish between 11am -12pm. After that, I am free to do what I want. Mostly, I watch movie and learn German. Right now, German is very important to me because everyone at the bakery speaks German and only German. Due to my limited German knowledge, I don’t understand instruction well and I think its not good coz I cannot be independent. At times, when I work, I felt like a ‘pendatang asing.’ I mean, I am ‘working’ in a foreign country and I have not much understanding of this land and its people. Yes, sometimes I do feel lonely but thank god as I am near school, I still have some friends, like Ivy, Michelle, Freeman…ohkay…only 3 but hopefully there will be more. As I am now living outside school (I am leaving at the bakery), I have to learn to be more independent and resilient. It’s a whole lot of learning process for me… hopefully, I will leave here with lots of experience and maturity. Oh yeah, to all my friends who missed me a lot in KL...i have already start looking for a date to return! Possibily in early August. Make sure you all come and jemput me beramai-ramai with banners and flowers and bears, OK? Today...is the last day of check out for everyone (except a few of us) and its so sad to be one of the last one to leave coz that means i get to see everyone off...and i want to say goodbye to as many people as i could and thats not a good thing coz you know la...i am so emotional... First to leave was grandpa (back to Thailand)...its so sad that grandpa left coz i like to manja manja with my grandpa and like a true grandpa, he very sayangkan me and gives me lots of advice. At night, when i was sending chanmaymei off last saturday...i just cried and cried.... after may may was my mom (tanzy) and auntie nat...then it was vimla and khesveen. Somemore they gave me a little gift then Vimla also cannot tahan and cry...then was ian. After ian was grandma and Andy (from Certificate). Today...will be mei and my daddy...my daddy will go to USA on Sunday for 1 year (on internship). I will miss my daddy ar...In fact, i will miss everyone ar... In this short time, we all spend so much time together, went through so many difficult times...lift each other and support each other...all the late nights at the wireless cafe and all the noodle partying in my room (the F&B department)...it has finally ended... Though there are many heartbreaks, anger and rough time, it made us even stronger and closer. We all have bonded so well and supported each other....we were each others pillars during hard times. Its just so sad for us to go our seperate ways. They say seperation is part of life and also a new beginning. Hopefully, it will be a good beginning of another chapter in our lives. To all my friends, enjoy your internship la and if fate has it, we shall meet again soon...(and i hope we will) Bye! First of all…I just want to wish everyone reading this a very Happy New Year! I know its already the 12th but…Happy New Year la! Yesterday, we had Graduation & Awards Ceremony in the Park Hyatt Zurich. Me, Vanessa, Khesveen, Kingston, Philip, Cherrie, Amy, Reka, Zsolt, Zoltan, Adam, Miruna and Ekaterina went to Park Hyatt at 8:30am coz we are ‘volunteers.’ The journey there was so bad coz our driver, Chucky is a very good driver, especially when we are going downhill. I felt so dizzy all the way. No wonder when we were about to leave, Mr Coy (our priest during the wedding) wishes us good luck and say may you all be blessed by god. When we reach Park Hyatt…Haiyah…I cannot stand properly ar…Vanessa and Cherrie has to hold me ar…Swt. Kingston, Miruna and me were in charged of the graduation robes. So when we reach there, we unload the boxes from the van which Bali drove and then start hanging the robes in the room. So many robes ar…and the room was so small and as we have so many box, the room became so messy and when the lady from the hotel came and see, I think she wanted to faint ar…in the end, they moved everything to the corridor near to the kitchen. Swt. Actually, we didn’t have much to do there but it was rather stressful. While we were starting to have lunch (McDonalds courtesy of Mr.Larmour), Mr Lack ask us to get ready with the robes coz they are starting rehearsals already…then we went and get ready but…false alarm… But when it was the time to distribute the robes, wah all 3 of us were under stressed ar. Coz the ceremony starts at 3 and people only start coming at 2.30…wah…we were so messy and worried that we gave them the wrong robes…but in the end, everything was ok except Laszlo’s robe coz we couldn’t find the ribbon…but then Mr Lack was ok with it la…takde kena marah…huhu After that was the awards ceremony. They started with the 1st award…the ambassador award…and Ivin (from Malaysia) got it with Miruna…Bikram, Lisa…and few other students…don’t remember oa…then the next was Best Professional Attitude…Ivy (my roommate), William (from Reliance College, Malaysia), Blond Blond…a girl from my class (very fake and lazy) but…???? Few more awards came up…and Jennifer Wong from Certificate won quite a lot…(Soerenberg, which according to other Certificate student was an upset), Best Side Table Service and another one for the Service Championship…Bikram also won 3 or 4 awards and was the Excellent Student for Fall 2007… So here are some other awards: Soerenberg Concepts: i. Certificate – Bluezy (Jennifer Wong’s group – which many said was not right coz it wasn’t good…but I don’t know…tak pernah tengok…) ii. Diploma – The Shades (Bowie, Sindy, Adriann and Vinoth) – a group with 3 pemalas iii. Higher Diploma – Heart of Ice (Bikram, Ivy, Echo and Theviya) iv. Post Graduate – Oceania Palace (ME!!!!!!!!!) so shocked ar…coz we really thought April’s group will win v. MBA – Bruce’s group… That was for the Concepts and Enterprise which we all hate…hehe Then there were some other awards… Service Championship i. Best Side Table Service – Jennifer Wong ii. Best Napkin Folding – Naeomi iii. Best Cocktail – Zsolt iv. Best Wine Service – don’t remember v. Overall Winner – RAIHAN (MALAYSIA ar!!!!) – finally rebut balik the piala…William won it for Fall 2006 and Yuki from HongKong won it for Spring 2006 and Ee-vern was like…Malaysia Boleh…hehe Beyond the Call of Duty i. Kitchen – Yulia (from my class), Mei, Robert, Raihan…..and few more… ii. Housekeeping - Elyse, Kingston, Christie (another Malaysian) Blond Blond??? ( biar betul! Tak pernah tengok dia buat housekeeping pun…common la…she don’t even pot wash in the kitchen. Dishwashing pun tak tahu!) iii. Service – ME!!!! Johnny??? (he was as surprised as the rest of us ar…) and few more…tak ingat coz I was too excited…hehe…. So that was that la…In the end we Malaysian did quite good…out of 7, 5 of us got awards… What did Malaysians get: i. Ambassador Award - Ivin ii. Best Professional Attitude – William iii. Soerenberg Concept (PG) – Me! iv. Service Competition Overall Champion – Raihan v. Beyond the Call of Duty – Kitchen (Raihan) - Housekeeping (Christie) - Service (me) Not bad huh? Hehe…. After the award is the dinner…not too bad…I love the moose. Had too many ar…so fattening oa.... Then as ‘volunteers’ we have to pack and clean our stuffs….huh…so tiring oa… We left Zurich at 830 and arrived at Soerenberg at 1020….only takes 1 hour 50 minutes ar…and we stopped twice… A normal driver will take 2 and half hours to drive back..but… we all….dizzy oa… and one funny thing was that Bali has to drive the two graduation cakes back (1000 CHF each) and Mr Lack kept reminding him on the walkie to take good care of the cakes…then suddenly…we saw them stop at the side… Rupa-rupanya part of the cake fell onto the van…so to prevent the cake from jatuh somemore…we had to eat the pieces (that’s still on the tray la…coz takut jatuh somemore). But we lazy and dizzy people just tell Mr Lack that we are sleepy so Mr Lack, Bali, Chucky, Marton, Adam was standing at the road side with emergency lights on to eat cake…so funny…hehe… Then 10 minutes to school…someone called Chucky and said, ‘OMG, we forgot about Rohan and Laszlo! The are still in Zurich!’ So Chucky was like, ‘Look, I am now in Fluhli…there is nothing I can do now….coz Rohan is here with us!’ and Laszlo was with Ms Sitt….hehe…. So…that’s all about the graduation and awards ceremony…. Will upload some pictures soon... Ciao! Yesterday... We had Service Competition Knockout's round...and everyone in my class has to join. Its compulsary and for the knockout round, we have to learn about some cocktails and history, equipments and then set a table of 4 the fine dining way in 30 minutes. So first round is about cocktail. And Mr Lack asked me about Manhattan...ok la...manage to remember the history and ingredient. Then cerita-cerita, he asked me you know what year was it invented? Then i said...late 1800s...and he asked you know specifically which year? So i bantai 1870s..and turned out i was right after all...hehe..lucky lucky la... Then second round is the equipment and cutleries. Managed to get all correct la... When come to round 3...kantoi...i set one side wrong...senget la...and its very obvious...haih...dont know why...yesterday i take so long to set the table...cannot say i nervous coz we always do in class...but somehow...macam everything i do tak jadi sajer... When we finished...i already know my chances to masuk finals already very slim...and haih...i really didnt make it ar... In my class...its Yulia and Vanessa who made it to the finals. A bit sad lor...coz i think many people expected me to get in to the finals...but....things happen and i always believe in learning through mistakes...but...the saddest thing is...yesterday was Bob's birthday and i promised to give him a birthday present and rebut the Service Championship back for Malaysia...Sorry Bobby... Then again...we still go chance la..coz Raihan is in the finals and right now, she is fighting for the championship...and hope is high on her...not only from us Malaysians but also other students. So yeah...Raihan...Malaysia Boleh tau! Haha Haiyah...ok la..i have to do my presentation...tomorrow have to present oa...but not yet do...huhu... Sad end… What a sad end to my Soerenberg Concept…Though we made it to the finals…we did very badly in the final presentation and well...me and Johnny already accepted that we will lose to April’s group. Well…its good that it is April, May, Ailsa and Khesveen. I mean...I would go crazy if it was other teams… The day of Soerenberg Finals was crazy for Johnny and I…we both almost lost our temper on each other. But thank god, somehow we made it through. It was really a bad day right from the start. We wanted to print the brochure out (using the school’s printer) then sekali…you know what happen when you do things last minute? The printer goes out of ink. Then fine la… I ask Echo…she has a new HP printer. Then she say no, coz we wanted to print 3 full page (front and back) It pisses me off coz during the International Night and prior to the night, I let her print all her menus with our printer and you know…the International Night was a school event, she could have got it print at the office for FREE. But yet, somehow she came to my room to print…fine la...she is Ivy’s classmate mah…Then they got more melampau…they come and print everything and anything they want…I also didn’t say anything…then I told Ivy, check the ink since you always use…she said don’t worry, still have many more…so when I wanted to print my brochure…yes…no ink…shit her. I was so pissed. And Echo, just wont let me print…I let her print so many…for International Night and also her Soerenberg Concept…did she consider my ink? Why in the end, my group has to suffer and has a lousy printed brochure? That’s not fair at all… And, that day, Johnny and I worked at the wireless till 6 am…and we had presentation at 9…but we had to be there at 8 to practise and show everything to Vimla & Indus…coz they went back to sleep at 12am! After the presentation the judges ask us to work it on the things they comment on, in case we made it through the finals and after lunch…me and Johnny was rushing to finalise everything and Rowena told us that Indus was watching TV in the room! Stupid her! Rasa nak tumbuk her only! Then during Front Office, Mr Coy came and announce the finalist and then the next day, others, (Vanessa, Pang, May, Max and all) told me and Johnny that when Mr Coy announced, Indus just showed the arrogant face to them. Shit her! What did she contribute to the concept? NOTHING! Except LAZINESS! Fine la…we made through that la…Then for the final round…we only had 1 hour to prepare…and then I was distributing the parts and all…Vimla looked at her part…the bloody same slide for 20 minutes and I don’t understand what was she reading! Seriously…it pisses me off coz we could have practised our presentation….no use la…we did badly in front of the judges…lousy presentation…so we (me & Johnny) gave up hope on winning…Haih…a bit disappointed but we did our best…(we in the sense of me & Johnny, since the other two was just merely there…) That was that la… Then this week…Ivy has restaurant duty and everyday…when she comes back…all she does was complain, complain and complain. It is so boring and tiring to hear that day in day out. And she will never stops until she is satisfied that everyone really pities her. Seriously…people all work at different speed and has different styles. She, just gets so pissed of and show the angry face when people don’t listen to her. It happens with her all the time. During her concept…during the International Night Menu Tasting…the actual International Night….she just cannot tolerate with other people in events like this…haih…pening I listen to her complain this week…so by Thursday…all I did was put on my head phone and blast my music…then when she realised that I wasn’t listening…she just go ‘Yer…’ and throw her scarf and go bathe… I thought that as a girl, I am already considered as panas baran la..but wah…this is…I also cannot tahan liao…rasa nak meletup liao! Haih…I also know its tiring to have duty…but then I have more duties than her and mine is like weekly and I sleep later than her and wake up earlier (everyday – I sleep about 1 and wake up at 6 and she just sleep at 11 or 12 and wake up at 9 or 10) and yet, she still so bising…haih…sometimes…tak boleh tahan la… Then just now…she blame me why I never ask her to iron her clothes in the afternoon. Walao…your own baju…you have to take note la…and I pun belum bising that I have to make another wet and cold trip to the other building to return the iron…she already bising I never remind her to iron clothes! Bengang-nyer aku!
Finally…a busy week has come and go and another one is coming…but this week…I am a bit free la...no presentation or assignment or events – coz its next week! Swt! Last week was a very busy week for me and everyone else in school – including the lecturers. On Monday, we went to Basel for IGEHO ( a hospitality exhibition) It was great as I saw many new things and technology in the hospitality industry and we also get to try loads of food…haha… Then on Tuesday was Soerenberg Feedback. It was as bad as it could be. We were not prepared at all and well…the judges had a go at us la…Swt. On these two days, I had laundry duty. Laundry duty is never fun but it was Fairman who was in charge of the laundry and when Fairman and me meets…you will see nothing but a lot of laughter and fun coz we are both just so crazy. You will just see a lot of craziness in the air when the two of us meet. And I actually did OT ar….laundry OT haha…. It was actually nice coz I get to take my mind off my assignments and presentation and soerenberg and just iron…so…my new relaxing method is to do laundry. Haha Then on Thursday I had German test (AGAIN!) aih…I think I did ok la…I mean I forgot a lot but then I think still can la…sure boleh wan la…I think…hehe… Thursday night was a terrible night as International Night was the next day so you can imagine everyone is running up and down, doing last minute preparation and training. As I was in the Bar & Beverage Team, we had to polish all the glasses (3 glasses per guest and we had about 120 guests), not including for sorbet, beers and all….then we practise and practise and more practise how to pour wine, present wines and all…so tiring…we finished around 1200am… The next morning, I had kitchen duty somemore… went to the kitchen at 1000am and start beating eggs and cutting onions (for scramble egg) and as usual la…when I cut onion…I just well…cry….and I found a way to stop the tears is to walk into the fridge…it works, ok? And chef was like yeah go and stay there…haih… After kitchen duty, we had to go and set up the restaurant for the night. We had to place all the glasses on the table and they keep changing the set up coz theres just too many stuff on the table and we can never take the glasses out! So we actually wasted a lot of time there. When that was done, we went back to change and got ready for the service. For the 1st 45 minutes, we were all in our traditional costume (me, in my kebaya nyonya). And we just wait and mingle with the guests. For the 1st time, the people from Malaysian Embassy came…somemore five of them came. Seriously, we were all very excited. Even Bob & Christie came out to welcome them. 1st time la kan… 630pm….the real show time starts. We had to do service and Raihan and me was in charge of the VIP table (Mr Coy, Mr Arnold, Malaysian Embassy and some agents) Basically Raihan did all the ordering and I just helped. Seriously…she is good but then I think she was over excited, she didn’t see the details, like informing kitchen that Malaysian Embassy people are non pork and do not take alcoholic drinks…she only took care of the Malaysian people…there are other guests on the table too, ok?! A bit messy la… Overall…it was a good event, I mean, we all get to experience the real fine dining (eating real slow and elegant). And we had loads of entertainment. The one I particularly liked was the songs by George, Bob, Marton and Zsolt, a love story performance by Cedric, Tess, Laszlo and Freeman (Mrs Arnold was like, wah….Laszlo is so handsome…) haha…, then the song by Amy, Rohan and George and also a dance by Roman & Nataliya. Anyway, we finished around 1130….then I had to go and work in the bar until 1am…so tiring…but I stayed and helped to clean the Hilton Suite a bit (but it was mostly done by others who had bar duty later…so I actually did less stuff..haha) When I came back…I bathe and eat noodles and watch my Hong Kong drama…and fell asleep on the laptop….Haha…So that was the International Night la… Oh…so stress ar…So many things to do…. Next Monday, we are going to Basel for IGEHO (a hospitality exhibition). Then on Tuesday, we have Soerenberg Feedback session and after that, Hotel Studies presentation…then German test on Thursday...on Friday, we have duty and dateline for F&B Assignment and also International Night. As I am in the Bar & Beverage team, I will probably have to work til 6 am….Haih…. So this week…I have to finish all my homework, assignments, presentations (i hope) and we have Bar training somemore…oh boy…I see myself staying up late again…. Then again, despite being so busy and staying up late, it is surprising that I can still survive and you know what…I love it! Haha…I mean, we always manage to have fun and enjoy ourselves. The school provides many activities and event (yes, we are good at events) So maybe the school has some shortcomings (who doesn’t?), but I still think that its not too bad. I love the fact that the people here are very closed to each other (which also means news spread very fast) but then it is so friendly and cosy and cold here…. By the way, Ivy’s ipod…its working, mind you! She just can’t adjust the volume….but then I think the fact that it can still on after so many spins in the washing machine….its a miracle…haha Anyway, it has stopped snowing. And…the thing is…the snow starts to melt…so COLD…and slippery…so many people fell down especially when walking between the two buildings and the mini slope to where I live (Mariental) is super slippery…today Mohammed fell down and cut his palm. I also almost slipped (because I was too busy laughing) and then I got a knock on the head from Chucky for being so playful….but yeah…for those of you who thinks that snow is good…think again…its damn dangerous…and cold…yes…I stress on the word cold coz when it is cold…I get hungry easily and when I am hungry…I eat noodles…then I put on weight (I have already put on a lot) My pants all ketat liao…and people also say I fat liao…(what a good thing to hear…) If I keep on going at this rate, when I go back next year….no one will probably recognise me… Ok la…want to go write report la… Gaining weight Weng Yi signing off… Yes...its already snowing here...Heavy snow...Everywhere here is white...oh...so pale and boring...
Its been snowing since Thursday and has been going on non stop til last night...
but today...still got strong winds...sejuk man!!!
Everyday, i balut myself with long john, sweater..wind breaker, scarf, boots...wa lao...i look so fat...HAHA
I dont know how am i going to survive winter...coz now is like beginning of winter but the snow is so thick...i cant imagine when december comes...
So lazy to go to the restaurant to eat...been eating a lot of Thai noodles lately (its the cheapest noodle around, in fact, its the cheapest food around!)
From now on, i wont go down to town (one, to save money, second to keep myself warm). I think the next time i go out will be around Xmas...
Last few weeks..have been horrible...a lot of homework and assignments and late nights...so tiring...but at the end of the day...everything went ok...
We had our assessment for Soerenberg concept almost 2 weeks ago..Everything went well...but we were expecting a little more points than what we got but then, we were the only one in class that our marks went up. Others went down. So i think we should be happy but then i would say, it made me and Johnny even more hungry for more (Yes, we are greedy so wish us luck!)
And this Mr Arnold ar...he so bad...Because we have to draw a 3D floor plan and the school has a program called 3D Plan and everyone used that program except my group. We found (no, actually Freeman found it and introduced it to Johnny) called FloorPlanner and well..it is very much better than the one provided by the school. Although its only 2D, but its really nicer than those who did 3D (not that we perasan, but its the truth). And then this Mr Arnold ask us to tell the class the program that we used to draw and ask everyone to use it! HEY! Thats our secret weapon! So terrible...He even ask Johnny to teach them! Do you know how much time we spent experimenting with the program? No that we kedekut or what la...but then at the end of the day, this is still a competition and we do want to win.
Theres nothing we can do now...but then at least we still have a competitive edge coz now everyone in class is working to make a new floor plan using the FloorPlanner while we are technically done with that and can move on to the 3rd stage, which is the Brochure and Website, and we are taking Mr Larmour and Mr Coy's suggestion to bring the WOW factor in. We have not figured it out yet, but trust me...we will....
Yesterday...we did our laundry and my roommate, Ivy, forgot to take her iPod out from her sweater and threw it into the washing machine....When we found out and stop the machine, we couldnt open the door...So i went and look for Mohammed...but i didnt tell him there is an iPod inside...just we cant open the door...then Fairman asked, do we have clothes inside and i said yes...then he tell me next time to put my clothes outside... =.= (but then, now i know how he wash his clothes) In the end, we managed to open the door using the emergency button (which was actually well hidden and after many calls to Chucky and Laslo) Haih...the iPod...basah habis and we can see water trapped inside...so now my roommate is using the hair dryer to dry it...The thing is, within one night, almost the whole school knew about it...kesian my roommate.....she was crying so badly yesterday....haih... Today.... We did the presentation for the feedback session for Stage II of Soerenberg...Ok la...so we all were all nervous and scared coz this time we had to present the financial part (which we main hentam only...) then ok la...we present everything...then came the feedback time... So here are the comments: Mr Coy: Gave quite a lot of comment but then he always answer the question himself and say 'i dont know, thats something good to think about' Mr Bachmann: Menu not extensive enough (but this is feedback only mah! so we just put few dishes) And room size too big..(38 sqm) then say he will see us to discuss about the menu Mr Arnold: Financial part ok...Reasonable...(occupancy could be higher) but room rates should be higher...Menu need to be more luxurious....(people not yet finish do mah!) As us to think more about the manpower we planned to have...say we need to think more... Mr Larmour: ' Guys, you have a great concept, but i have to be critical here. Be more realistic, work more on the menu...less pictures (but in the briefing ask us put more pictures!) Do more...Gather your thoughts, focus on your concept...' Haih... Usually, Mr Larmour is not that critical and he usually have good comments for us...so this time...we were a bit shocked that he was so straight forward and critical to us....I mean, other teams got questioned and shot by Mr Arnold...but...we get from Mr Larmour...so other teams were just as shocked as us that he was so....straightforward and has so much comment about our presentation.... Then again...overall...we had to re-think a lot of things...means more sleepless nights for me la... and also Johnny...on saturday, i worked til 3 am and yesterday ar...we work until 4am...i sit at the wireless cafe until by butt pain. Then today whole day class from 8....crazy man...so tiring...somemore i wake up late...no time for coffee... Haih...you know ar...for this feedback session ar...my other two teammates ar...haih...so malas...just simply do their part but dare to request this and that but never help anything! Powerpoint also me and Johnny do...then somemore ar...this morning ar...Indus (super lazy team mate) say to me, i forgot to mention about the business center! I did all her power point and has to change the stupid menu she gave me...and she tell me i didnt do for her! I so bengang when she said that. I am not her maid leh...and i did not promise to do the power point for her...i did it because i want to do well in my studies (my parents pay too much for me to come here to fail) She never even say thank you for doing the power point for her...somemore ask me why i didnt do the business center plan! Its not important mah...the important thing in this concept is rooms, financial statement and restaurant...others are extra...and she ar...always 'gan cheong' about the extras... Its so stressful when you have two teammates that are not productive...pisses me off coz i already have to do so many things...haih...i know in life, in work, we will meet people that we dont like to work with and Johnny and I do get this but then...its not fair coz this is like 30% for all subjects and we worked so hard, all those late nights...then any points we get from the presentation is equally shared among the 4 of us...i think its not fair lor...coz me and Johnny worked so hard...and the other two just goyang kaki...so bengang! With these feedbacks that we just got...we must do more research and think and anticipate what they will ask us and prepare an answer for that! I dont want Mr Larmour (who is much nicer to other groups) to be so critical to us.
But it was a good kick...at least we got a better direction...hopefully....hopefully...we will progress more and find the 'WOW' factor.... Phew! Finally…I have time to update my blog. Had been busy with classes, homework, assignments, presentations and duties. Despite all that, I had a lot of fun. Tiring but fun. Usually by weekend, I will be exhausted and all I wanted to do is sleep. It’s the only day I get to wake up late. Ok la…so some updates about what happened here: Soerenberg Concept: Kena tembak like shit during the presentation. We had a good concept (according to the judges) but we lack some detailed information. We did not anticipated those questions to be asked in the first round of presentation….haih…but then, I think we did ok la…I was expecting more but then after the presentation, our morale went down down down….At least we didn’t fail the first round of assessment la… HTMi Wedding: Yes, we are having a wedding! I am being serious. We have a bride and groom. The groom is Chucky while Adrian is the bride. Generally, to get marry, the groom first has to propose and yes, Chucky proposed, during lunch. And it was really funny coz it happened right where we were sitting and Kingston was so excited and started shouting ‘I do, I do’ So malu tau…macamlah dia yang nak kahwin. Then Chucky announced his parents. His father was Bob ( Malaysian in BSc) and his mom, Ms Sitt…our vice principal…and the bestman is Cedric, if I am not mistaken. a week later, Adrian announced her parents…Mr Bachmann is her father and her mom ‘has not arrived’ and Mr Coy (our Academic Dean) is the priest (he said the reason he was chosen as the priest is because every time when people sees him…they go…oh God…) Swt It was so funny…can’t wait for the wedding in November (26, I think) Winery Visit: Last Sunday, we went to a winery at Zurich, called Stammheimer with Mr Bachmann. It’s a small winery but it produces good wines. There, we were given detailed explanation about wine making and most importantly, given the opportunity to taste the wines at the different stages of production. Some taste good while some taste bad (like some of the white wines) at certain stage, but the end result is always better. After the tour, we had a small BBQ, well, more like grilling…we had sausages and bread (mat salleh la kan…) So fun….tiring journey to Zurich but fun…. German Test: Yeah, did my German test on Monday...was really freaking out on the day of test. But then my roommate (Tanzy) and my 'father' (Siwat) helped me a lot la...they help me practise. Then during the test, i panic...so for the first 10minutes, i was just staring at my paper. After that, i managed to calm down and answer the paper...first time i had panic attack for a test. Maybe i was just too scared as I am always lost during class....In the end, i did reasonabably well la i would say...given that I was practically freaking out on test day (accounts for 15% of our final exam) HTMi International Night Menu Tasting Day: The other day, last Wednesday, I think…I was doing research at the library innocently and Mr Lack (our Training & Events Manager) asked me which team I was in for the International Night and I said Bar & Beverage…then he pulled me and ask me to help him with the Menu Tasting coz they are one person short (its supposed to be Freeman but he went to the Brewery and they were afraid that he will not come back in time). So…I ended up…servicing on a Wednesday! When we were about to start, Freeman came back and he quickly changed to service uniform and came. Then I thought I can go…but I can’t…so we ended up having 3 service personnel for beverage team. (the other person was Vinoth, an Indian guy from Singapore) So I was the water Sommelier while the two guys were Wine Sommelier. Everything was ok…going well…we took turns and helped each other (especially me, coz this is my first real Fine Dining Service experience). In the end…we were clearing the glasses and the room was really quiet. I had two glasses on the tray and wanted to take another one from another guest and I couldn’t reach the glass…so I stretch somemore la…then suddenly the two glasses on the tray ‘Clink-ed’ and the guest was said something like, ‘ I thought I will die’ so I just replied him, ‘oooops…sorry, short hands.’ Haih…so embarrassing leh….i will practise me so that I wouldn’t really kill someone on International Night. Thank god Mr Hailstones our F & B Manager is not around…or else…I will be dead by now…we worked til like 10pm, but I enjoyed it and will practise more! Today is Hari Raya..so Selamat Hari Raya to all my Muslim friends! Ada rendang dengan ketupat tak? Kirim la sikit..... Til the next update, Auf Wiederhoren! (to hear you again) For the past few days, we have been having some internet problem at the school. Apparently, someone has used our school's line to make their own network. So we couldn't online...so san fu...Now i am sitting in my friend's room in the other building (Panorama). Haih.. So teruk... but..it gave me time to do some catching up reading my text books. Today, i did a lot of things...I ironed, washed the toilet, finished my HR assignment, read my F&B book...HR, Front Office and Housekeeping...So terror right? Penat tau! But then i still very bersemangat to study! Just no semangat to do the presentations and assignments.... Ok la...thats all for now la...I want to continue with my homework and research! Ciao! Yesterday…is mid-autumn festival ar… It was the first time I do not celebrate with my family. In fact, this was the first festival I celebrate in Switzerland. Haih…a bit miss the mooncake ar…I like ping pei ar…my mom asked me if I want her to send me the mooncakes but then I told her no need coz it wouldn’t be nice anymore when it arrive (my mom make the mooncake, so no preservatives and all, so might even turn bad while its on its way to me.) Yesterday, Freeman said that he has a few lanterns and he also bought some bunga api from the supermarket and asked me to join but before I could go...already over liao…kena complain coz too noisy ar…then they moved it to Mariental (where I live) but then mooncake also left bits and pieces only…haih…. Anyway, internet was down last night, and Mr Lehnis, the IT/French Guy said that this is probably someone meddling with our school’s network…like changing the setting or some thing la…so teruk la these people…it happened at the other building a few weeks ago…and now…here…so mah fan you know…have to go all the way to the other building to do homework…then because everyone is crammed at one place…the system jadi slow pulak…haih…so leceh! Menyampah ar….make me cannot do homework…then I go and watch tv pulak…waste my time only! Today also…internet keep on down…ok for a few minute then dc…aih…how to do work wor? Somemore I got 1 mini bukit here already… So…today is our Soerenberg Concept presentation day. As usual, we went in and present and bla bla bla… the presentation went quite well. Then we had a small feedback session. Everything was ok…I mean Mr Larmour was happy with our idea…he liked the progress we had made so far… then Mr Coy gave some feedbacks and suggestions… then…Mr Arnold…wah…he ask so many questions, some which takes us by surprise and complicated. Crazy man…he ask so many things…haih…I am not saying that its bad…its good but…so many comment…mostly, they have issues with our floor plan. I mean yeah, I do believe we have a good concept but as good as it is, it is rather complicated and needs to consider a lot of things. So…yeah…anyway, for the floor plan…its back to the drawing board la...I would say….means more late night and sleepless night for me…haih… You know…my group got four people mah…but only me and Johnny do the work wan lor…the other two…come, give some ideas then leave…they just like demand what they want never say how to do it…aiyah…some more they always come late. Once, Indus and I fight because she was late and when I asked her why…she says she needed to freshen up. Well, its not like I don’t allow people to freshen up but then to take one hour? That’s too much right? I mean, when she came, she never even apologise but just sat on the chair and gave us the unsatisfied look. So after that, I was so pissed and you know what she tells me? She says I can go freshen up now if I wanted to. I mean…what kind of people talks like that? Don’t you think that’s too much? Haih…but she is always late for class and well…aih…so sad to have two people of these kind in my group. So today, when Mr Arnold started questioning us, I was like…aiyoh…means Johnny and I have to work late night again la…so teruk la… Then again…he is showing us about the real world and helped us to develop our plans future. I just hope that by the end of the semester…I can still breathe…. Today marks 3 weeks I am in Switzerland. Does it seems fast? To me…a little la…I miss KL but then, I am too busy to miss it! That’s why I didn’t really update my blog. I mean, class and assignments and duties really takes away all my time. But thank god, I have finished most of my duties so I am a little relieved. Well…maybe not, coz assignment and presentation dateline is getting closer and I have yet to do anything…so…urgh! So tired….and I know I have promised some of you that I will load the pictures here. I did try but then I don’t know why, its so slow. I even left it on for one whole night but…all I can say is the internet connection here is really sucky and sometimes, we can’t even online! It just drives me crazy! But then, from what I heard, apparently, the lines in Switzerland are not that good. Probably its affected by the landscape and also the fact that here (in my school) is a small town, so you know small town la…anyhow, I will continue to work and post the pictures slowly. Might take me forever tho! Luckily my dad gave me two really big memory SD card…(1G and 2G so…boleh ambik banyak gambar la…) Apart from studying and doing my project, I have also done some sight seeing, twice in Luzern and once in Bern, which I went last Saturday. We went there ourselves and Freeman was our guide (this was his second year here). He took us around and see some of the important landmarks in Bern and I like Bern…well…except that the people here are German speaking and I suck in German …other than that, I like it a lot. Might get to do internship there. Hehe Before I came, everyone told me that “Wah, so good, go Switzerland. Can enjoy…” but but…what you always see is not the truth…not to say that Switzerland is not good. It is what people think of la…peaceful, clean and nice with beautiful sceneries. But then, life here is well…hectic la…we always have activities going on. And I know when I told some people that my school is high up in the mountains, they thought that I would be bored but then, truth is…I am never bored here. There is just no time to be bored. Maybe that’s why also we have so many activities and assignments going on here. I still remember the very first assignment I got when I reach here is the Soerenberg Concept (it’s a competition amongst classmate and the other batches, I think). It’s an assignment where we are all divided into groups and have to design a hotel at a specific location. Sounds easy huh? But then, we have a lot to consider and we have to think like we are really building. The location, the theme, logo, cost to build it, whether it is sustainable and all…we have to plan everything! Everything! Can you believe it? This is our biggest headache…at least for my team. So my team comprises of Johnny (from Hong Kong), Vimla (Mauritious) and Indus (India). What can I say about my teammates? Well, Johnny and I worked very hard and thought about everything and did everything…I am so lucky to be in the same team as Johnny. Coz usually, I think of something and tell him and he help me to perfect an idea or concept and so far, we both worked very well and although we always has some sort of halangan, we still managed to find ways to overcome or talk things through. So yeah, it was really good. Soerenberg Concept is a very important assignment as it accounts for 30% of all of our subjects. Even if we don’t win, we still have to do well to get enough points. So this is a very important assignment for all of us. So please pray that we will do well…ok? Then another big event here is International Night. Its an evening where representatives or ambassadors from various countries are invited to come to our school to dine and have fun. Everyone, all the students are involved. So it will be a big night on November 23. the good thing is, its not organised y my class so…yeah…just have to attend to duties in my department (Bar). That’s all. Ok la…so that’s it for now. I will work hard to post the pictures up but it might take some time since the connection is so sulky! Ciao! I am back! To the internet world! Has not been really able to update my blog since arriving in Switzerland. But then, i just got my laptop yesterday, so i will be able to come online everyday! Yay! Anyway, life here is hectic la...i also cant imagine i made it through without my laptop for so many days. I mean, the amount of work that we have...and the trouble to use the computer lab... We all have many assignments and they are generally due near to each other. But the most important assignment of all is Soerenberg Concept which accounts for 30% for all the papers.
Despite the amoutn of homeworks and assignments, we do party a lot here. Every Friday night, we will have some sort of event(s) like Mauritious Night, Indian Night and so on or even themed parties at the bar...Every Friday will be some sort of national night at the restaurant. So we study hard, work hard and party even harder. Today, i went to Bern with my friends and i liked it there, apart from the expensive food la that is... i enjoyed looking at the architectures of the buildings, the busses (i know i am weird...) Then again...to get to Bern burns my pocket as one trip there with a half price card cost about 30 Swiss Francs...thats about RM84! Travelling in Switzerland is convenient but expensive la...then again, it wont stop me from moving around! Ok la...i am very tired now and i need to go bathe....and i will upload the beautiful pictures of Switzerland within these few days. Ok...hello everyone...i am now using the school's computer to type this...so i have to be real fast...not supposed to use this for things other than studying...so i will be real quick... I am doing ok here...still adapting especially to the weather and keyboard! The alphabets arrangement here is well...a bit different from the usual ones...so i am typing real slow here... So here, i am sharing a room with two other person, one from Thailand and the other from Hong Kong but we are all in different class. We officially started class today...and we already have courseworks and stuff...aiyoh...what have i gotten myself into la????? But all in all i am doing ok here...met a lot of nice people and i hope that the rest of my stay here will be equally nice and interesting and less assignments... Thats all for now. As they are chasing me out of the computer lab! Will try and update again soon. Take care everyone!
Guten Nacht (Good night)
